CMS (Central Monitoring System)

Many applications need to be monitored in an automated way. CMS is an application to monitor logs of other applications and manage them remotely.

There are many ways how to monitor applications. One way is to monitor the logs of applications and collect messages in one server. Messages from the logs are collected by agents and data is propagated to the central server where data can be viewed by operators.

CMS consists of 3 components:

  • agents – propagating messages from logs to the central server
  • central server – collecting messages from the agents and generating reports
  • console – viewing states and messages by operators

CMS agent or CMS server is an application that can run in the Windows, or the unix systems. CMS console needs JVM (Java 1.4 and higher)
